Most obsidian objects assert through mass. Swing curves upward instead – the sides lifting the form into something closer to a vessel than a slab.

Obsidian asks little of those who keep it. Dust or wipe the surface with a soft, dry cloth; for anything more, a cloth lightly dampened with water is enough. Avoid abrasive materials and household chemicals, which can dull the polish that gives the stone its depth.
Where a piece is finished in metal, the same gentleness applies. Handle it as you would any fine object, and it will hold its lustre for a lifetime. Obsidian is a natural volcanic glass; it is hard and enduring, but like all glass it is happiest away from sharp knocks and hard edges.
